Saigon East-West Avenue

The East - West Highway project has a total length of 21.89km, going from Cat Lai intersection, through Thu Thiem tunnel, then to districts 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, Binh Tan and Binh Chanh district, creating an East - West traffic axis, connecting the Northeast - Southwest ends of the city, improving the currently overloaded urban transportation system. The project has a total approved investment of 660.6 million USD (9,863 billion VND).

The project began construction in April 2005 and by the end of 2009, the entire route was basically completed.

One of the features of the project is design changes, so much so that a Japanese director once said "during the dry season, we stop waiting for the design, and in the rainy season we receive the drawings". Perhaps this project failed right from the design stage (or even before that) leading to countless consequences later.

Ngu Thuong Company is responsible for the substructure for Cat Lai intersection and drainage system package 2.

Work was completed in mid-2009 but the project's completion date has not been determined.
