With an investment capital of 219 million USD, the new station will increase the total service capacity from 7 million to 15 million passengers per year when put into operation at the end of 2006. But due to many objective conditions, this outstanding architectural project was put into use one year later than expected.
When the project is completed, the entire old station area will only be for domestic passengers. The international terminal will be located to the left of the domestic terminal. The total area of the airport at this time is 92,000 m2.
The construction of the new international terminal is part of a loan project from Japan's Special Credit Fund worth 219 million USD signed with the Government at the end of 2002. The project is implemented by a joint venture of four leading Japanese contractors, Kajima, Taisei, Obayashi, Maeda, referred to as KTOM Joint Venture and more than 30 domestic and foreign subcontractors.
Summary table of project and contractor information
Although the investment value of the project is only that of a new passenger plane, it was completed by thousands of hands over more than three years. And as the inevitable result of the effort, the new station has narrowed the gap with the world both literally and figuratively.
