Faced with this problem, with the support of the Central Government, the Provincial People's Committee has approved the investment project to build the city's drainage and wastewater treatment system. This is a key project of the city to meet one of the standards of a class I urban area, while contributing to reducing environmental pollution, creating better living conditions for people, enhancing the sustainability of infrastructure... Mr. Luong Van Ba, General Director of An Giang Electricity and Water Joint Stock Company (project investor), said that the project has a total investment of more than 65.6 million USD (over 1,344.8 billion VND), of which Korean ODA capital is 46 million USD (943 billion VND), the Central counterpart capital is more than 19.6 million USD (over 401.8 billion VND). "The project will build a 69.2km long wastewater collection pipeline, connecting to 24,392 households in the inner wards of Long Xuyen city. All wastewater will be collected and brought to the northern wastewater treatment station (Binh Duc 2 cluster, Binh Duc ward) with a scale of 10,000m3/day and the southern wastewater treatment station (Tay Khanh 5 cluster, My Hoa ward), with a scale of 10,000 m3/day. 20,000m3/day. In addition, the project will also build a new 5,254km long storm water drainage pipe and renovate and clean 10km of existing sewers. Project includes:

· Construction of 5km of new rainwater drainage pipes to add to the existing stormwater drainage system;
· Construction of the Northern Wastewater Treatment Plant, capacity of 10,000 m3/day, night;
· Construction of the Southern Wastewater Plant, capacity of 20,000 m3/day, night;
· Construction of HDPE pipe network to collect wastewater (69.2km; 8 wastewater pumping stations)…
The total cost of project implementation is 65.6 million USD, of which counterpart capital from the Vietnamese Government is 19.6 million USD, ODA loan from the Korean Government is 46 million USD, invested by An Giang Electricity and Water Joint Stock Company.

This project is funded by the Korean Government through the Korea Export-Import Bank (Korea Eximbank).

Long Xuyen city's drainage and wastewater treatment system is planned on an area of 132,946m2, with a capacity of 30,000 m3/day and night, connected to 24,392 households and 55,079m of service pipes.

The project has a total investment capital of 65,602 million USD (equivalent to about 1,469 billion VND), of which ODA loan from the Korean Government is 46 million USD, counterpart capital from the Vietnamese Government is 19,602 million USD with An Giang Electricity and Water Joint Stock Company as the investor.
Long Xuyen city is the economic, political, socio-cultural center of An Giang province; The city has an important position in terms of national security, tourism and trade with neighboring provinces.

Along with the development of the city, the amount of domestic wastewater, service business and handicraft wastewater is increasing, seriously affecting the city's living environment.

Therefore, investing in building a complete drainage and wastewater treatment system is extremely necessary; contributing to reducing environmental pollution, diseases, creating better living conditions for people, enhancing the sustainability of infrastructure in Long Xuyen city, contributing to promoting the economic development of An Giang province.
In addition, Long Xuyen city is also a traffic hub and gateway for the entire An Giang province and the Mekong Delta region in particular, and the country in general with Cambodia.

At the groundbreaking ceremony for Long Xuyen City Wastewater Treatment Plant, Minister Counselor of the Korean Embassy in Vietnam, Mr. Lee Won Ik emphasized that the Long Xuyen Wastewater Treatment Plant project is part of the cooperative relationship of mutual development between Vietnam and Korea - a relationship that has been nurtured by the Governments and people of the two countries over the past 23 years.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, Mr. Vuong Binh Thanh highly appreciated the Long Xuyen city wastewater treatment plant construction project. The construction of the Long Xuyen Wastewater Treatment Plant will bring many benefits to society, the environment will be improved, water pollution will be reduced, people's health will be guaranteed, Long Xuyen urban area will be cleaner and more beautiful, contributing to making Long Xuyen city a class I urban area by 2020.

Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province requested the People's Committee of Long Xuyen city and people in the project area to support and create conditions for the construction unit to complete on schedule; At the same time, it requires investors, supervision consultants, and construction contractors to show a high sense of responsibility during the construction process to ensure quality, progress, and labor safety to soon put the project into use and promote investment efficiency and serve the people.
